“To my mind, there have been two great American novels in the past fifty years. Catch-22 is one.” —Stephen King, Entertainment Weekly • RS Country • Year 5 - Miss C Langworthy

In the same breath, I can’t deny that I charged through seven hours of Sharp Objects with an obsessive appreciation for the overall effort, propelled mostly by Adams’s effectively morose and complicated portrayal of Camille. • Books MCGONAGALL • Wednesday Guarding something? Norbert? Other than that, Harry Potter is considered a Children's book but in my opinion, it's in between middle grade and young adult because it can be hard to read for some. Although it was very very easy for me to read and understand, I see myself reading this all these years before and having a lot of trouble pronouncing some names. Camille’s aunt said Adora was genuinely different before the sister died, but that could just be the booze and hazy memories and wishful thinking/nostalgia talking. Dudley : Mum, help! McGonagall, very disappointed, takes 50 points each from the three of them and gives them all detention, which they will serve with Malfoy. Their popularity with the other students suffers because of this. A week or so before exams, Harry hears Professor Quirrell, sounding as if he is being threatened. So, Harry heads to the library to tell Ron and Hermione. They are convinced Snape was threatening Quirrell, and means to steal the Stone soon, and Hermione suggests they go to Dumbledore. Harry refuses, saying that they have no proof. Gothic Literature Literary Devices "Yes, him—Quirrell said he hates me because he hated my father. Is that true?" DUMBLEDORE I think I'm the only one who liked the John/Camille scene. It was a big step for her to be "seen" in that way and loved through it. I thought it was brave. Stupid...considering the circumstances...but brave nonetheless. Unfortunately it didn't last long... • ^ Dammann, Guy (18 June 2008). "Harry Potter breaks 400m in sales". The official newspaper of our dominant counter-culture, The New York Times, has been startled by the Potter books into establishing a new policy for its not very literate book review. Rather than crowd out the Grishams, Clancys, Crichtons, Kings, and other vastly popular prose fictions on its fiction bestseller list, the Potter volumes will now lead a separate children's list. J. K. Rowling, the chronicler of Harry Potter, thus has an unusual distinction: She has changed the policy of the policy-maker. It gave me horror vibes, and because I do not read horror – with very few exceptions on Halloween – I didn’t even want to think about reading this book. Maybe all of the above is a bit much. Like I said, I was feeling nostalgic and maybe the gush got a tad away from me. Let’s just say that these stories are perfect comfort food and reading them will make you happy. • French version. window.modules["76"] = [function(require, module, exports){"use strict";const rest=require(9),utils=require(13);function get(t,e){return rest.get(utils.uriToUrl(t,e))}function put(t,e,r){return rest.put(utils.uriToUrl(t,r),e,!0)}module.exports.get=get,module.exports.put=put; • Road Safety By all accounts, this is a Gillian Flynn novel. Having read all of her books now, I can safely say that she has a very dark mind. I cannot for the life of me understand how someone can put so much fucked-up in less than 300 pages. She seemed to like Camille until now. I guess she's just a teenage and maybe was jealous that Camille didn't want to hang with her. Amy Adams They completely skipped over this in the show, but in the book it's revealed after Amma is arrested that she had planned to kill one of her two friends (I believe Jodes) because Amma felt like she was weak and might end up coming forward about the murders. Who, having not read the novel, saw it coming that the woman in white was the younger Crellin? For those in the comments who have read the book, I see now what you meant about the trail of breadcrumbs that had been laid throughout the series. It makes me want to go back to the beginning and watch it again, perhaps with the calming aid of a nice Amaretto sour. Notes and observations Information on the First Movie • Thriller • List of American films of 1970 Nicholas Tucker described the early Harry Potter books as looking back to Victorian and Edwardian children's stories: Hogwarts was an old-style boarding school in which the teachers addressed pupils formally by their surnames and were most concerned with the reputations of the houses with which they were associated; characters' personalities were plainly shown by their appearances, starting with the Dursleys; evil or malicious characters were to be crushed rather than reformed, including Argus Filch's cat Mrs Norris; and the hero, a mistreated orphan who found his true place in life, was charismatic and good at sports, but considerate and protective towards the weak. [57] Several other commentators have stated that the books present a highly stratified society including many social stereotypes. [58] However Karin Westerman drew parallels with 1990s Britain: a class system that was breaking down but defended by those whose power and status it upheld; the multi-ethnic composition of Hogwarts' students; the racial tensions between the various intelligent species; and school bullying. [59] • Year 4 Total votes: 254,066 • Reading For the first time, J.K. Rowling's beloved Harry Potter books will be presented in lavishly illustrated full-color editions. Kate Greenaway-award winning artist Jim Kay has created over 100 stunning illustrations, making this deluxe format a perfect gift as much for a child being introduced to the series, as for the dedicated fan. Most reviews were very favourable, commenting on Rowling's imagination, humour, simple, direct style and clever plot construction, although a few complained that the final chapters seemed rushed. The writing has been compared to that of Jane Austen, one of Rowling's favourite authors; Roald Dahl, whose works dominated children's stories before the appearance of Harry Potter; and the Ancient Greek story-teller Homer. While some commentators thought the book looked backwards to Victorian and Edwardian boarding school stories, others thought it placed the genre firmly in the modern world by featuring contemporary ethical and social issues, as well as overcoming obstacles like bullies. International edition HARRY • Costas Fotakis 4 Before the end of this year the novel was awarded many important literary awards in the UK. This has always been in my top three titles. It's a classic. Just after I re-read it, the filmed series came out. I found it didn't quite catch the humour and satire of the original, it was more of a drama. Which leads me to recommend the book to anyone who saw the series. There is so much more in the book. It's one of a kind. Funny, heartbreaking, infuriating - you run the gamut of emotions reading this. The point of the book is an anti-war message, and that comes across along with the satire.
